That’s quite the unusual headline for a blog post! With all the DM’s I have been getting in different SoMe lately I am repeating myself too much for my own patience so I feel I should rather address my Olympic absence her.
While I would have loved little more than to fulfill my dream of becoming a Greek Olympian, I don’t have the luxury of being able to travel around Central Europe to race for good FIS-points. I have previously written a little about this ranking system, but in short: racing against some of the best skiers in the world does not do wonders for the ranking when you are as far behind as I am. Going to Baltic or Alpen cup would be far better for my ranking, but unless a secret sponsor suddenly came to my aid I wasn’t going to pursue this when there was only one spot for a Greek female XC-skier and we have two girls who are better skaters than I.
In other words, going to the Olympics this year was a long shot, time wise, money wise and, in all fairness, performance wise. Also, I was never too crazy about going to South-Korea in the first place. In Lahti, I visited the Seefeld 2019 stand and felt such a pull towards that place, and quickly decided that was going to be my final attempt so qualify for the 10K classic race. Actually, I had already decided that months a go when it still felt so far away in time.
So those are the reasons and here I am, working away, training and juggling all sorts of projects as usual. The only thing I can do for our Greek Olympic team is wish them the best of luck and may they all reach their personal goals! And what a start for the Norwegian team! I am crazy proud of my fellow LYN SKI athletes who won the gold and bronze on the skiathlon, and national coach of a husband.
Hope to are enjoying the Olympic month to the fullest!
