What if you could spend your summer vaycay combining realizing your dream of living of your passion with colorful art-deco buildings, warm weather, long beaches with life-guard huts, USA’s most turquoise water, healthy food, training and new, like-minded friends?
This year AFPT is taking the show to Miami and hosting our PT Intensive there! Last year I got the opportunity to teach in Dubai and I have got to admit that I was highly sceptic of the whole “intensive thing” and though to myself that this might not be the academically strongest class I’d teach this year, but I do trust our headquarter 100% so I took the job and flew out with an open mind. Boy, were my worries completely unnecessary! First of all, you do not spend a month on vacation and the come home with a formal Personal Trainer certification. No, no, nooo! We teach all the practical and theoretical classes on the location, and when you get home you still have to continue to study on your own time and finally take the theoretical and practical exam. Oh, and pass it! You can read more about the study plan HERE. The lectures and study material is all in Norwegian.
The Dubai class turned out to become one of the academically and practically strongest classes I would teach in 2016, and I thought a lot of classes. Not to take anything away from the other classes, but I think I became that way because, in during those weeks, they could focus everything they had towards learning and growing as people, students and finally Personal trainers. They were uninterrupted by other work, family and other distractions. This is a time for you to focus on your own development and learning all the tools you need in your belt sa a PT. The Dubai-students also studied together outside of class and trained together, they made each other better! Yes, there is a lot of studying and a lot of lectures, but there are also days off and time for fun. AFPT usually sets up some cool activities and you are also free to experience the destination on your own.
Some of the students I talked to said they had been really unsure of going without knowing anyone and worried abut how they’d do in class, but it had ended up being the best decision of his/her life! That really warmed my lecturer heart and, you know..my real heart. So many of the students form Dubai class of 2016 are working successfully as trainers today, some are even running their own businesses and some haven’t changed career path, but more importantly have changed their own life for the healthier and better as a result for the knowledge and insight they gain. What I’m getting at is that this is som much more than a vaycay of learning, it is about personal development, meeting and getting to know people (perhaps future friends or colleagues) and broadening your horizon, all the while being taught by some of the best in the biz.
One of my dedicated students, Vilde, was blogging (and still is) during her stay in Dubai and you can read about it HERE and she also has a really nice Instagram account. As for Miami I found this fun blog post from Positivista with her best Miami tips. And here are some Miami vibes to get you started.
